The hoods we work on
- Pro wall and wall chimney hoods Hung on the wall over a range or rangetop, with the controls recessed under the front edge and the baffle filters overhead.
- Island hoods Hung from the ceiling over an island cooktop. With no wall behind the smoke, capture depends more on speed and on draughts in the room.
- Hood liners The Wolf insert inside a custom wood or plaster hood. The cabinetry is the joiner’s; the blower, filters, lights and controls are the liner’s.
- Downdraft ventilation Rises out of the counter behind a cooktop and drops back out of sight — a lift mechanism under the counter, with its blower either mounted on the unit or remote.
- In-line and remote blowers The motor lives in the duct run or at the outside wall or roof instead of in the hood, so its noise and its faults travel with it.
What it is doing when you ring

Seated properly, clean enough to pass air, and back in the right slots. A loaded filter set mimics half the faults below.

Speed control and heat sentry
Does the blower answer every setting, and is the heat sentry holding it on because the exhaust is still hot?

The blower itself
Motor, wheel balance and bearings, and the thermal overload that stops a hot motor and lets it restart once it cools.

The backdraft damper
Free to swing fully open under the blower, and falling shut again when it stops.

The duct, as far as it can be followed
Joints, crushed or sagging runs, and the outlet checked from the ground — the place a weak hood most often loses its pull.

Lights and controls last
Bulbs and sockets first, then the switch or board behind them. Cheap causes are ruled out before a board is blamed.

Blower ran but the kitchen still filled with smoke off the grill pan. The roof damper had rusted part shut. He cleared it and pointed out a duct joint that had pulled apart in the attic.
